BELL'S Court cut Clinton SC A's lead to four points in division one of the Mining Snooker League as a result of last week's matches, writes Graham Allen.
While Clinton A were held to a 3-3 draw at St Day, Bell's Court beat Playing Place 5-1 to move two points closer in second place. St Day led Clinton A 3-1 before Scott Bray and Gary Bray levelled the match for the leaders. At Bell's Court there was a great break of 71 by 16-year old Bobby Southworth, eventually missing with three reds left on the table, Paul Williams weighed in with breaks of 59 and 34, and club pro Andy Hicks made a break of 40. Phil Davey was Playing Place's lone winner.
Apart from the St Day v Clinton A result, every other match finished 5-1, with the teams at the bottom end of the table on the receiving end.
Third-placed Clinton B beat Lanner, with Dave Thomas winning for Lanner and Redruth British Rail (John Winn 38 break) beat Breage. Illogan suffered at the hands of Penponds, where John Fisher was the home team winner, making breaks of 30 and a 25 clearance to pip Cornie Piredda on the final black. Leedstown's 5-1 win at Pool took them into mid-table, with breaks of 42 from Simon Gill and a 31 from Julian Care. Illogan and Pool are now deep in trouble at the bottom.
Godolphin A have a massive 12 point lead over Porthleven in division two and are still undefeated after the first match of the second half, although they were pushed to the final frame by bottom team Four Lanes B. For Godolphin A Chris Timmins made a 38 break, with Garth Dower replying with a 29 for Four Lanes B.
Porthleven won 3-2 at Redruth British Rail, the last frame being won by the still unbeaten Dean Willams. Clive Roberts made breaks of 31 and 21 in Camborne Conservative's 3-2 victory over Clinton SC, and saw his team climb into third place in the table.
Only three points separate Clinton SC in fifth place and the next eight teams in the table. Four Lanes B and Illogan are some way adrift of the pack.
In division three Redruth RBL Youth hold a two point lead over Playing Place, who have moved strongly up the table in recent weeks and have dropped only two points in their last three matches. The Youth team beat joint-third placed Perranporth Golf Club 3-2, while Playing Place won 4-1 at Illogan. Camborne Conservative also won 4-1 at Clinton SC to maintain their challenge.
