CHARLESTOWN u11 0 HELSTON 0

ON a cold, wet Sunday afternoon Helston travelled to title contenders Charlestown determined to reverse their loss earlier in the season.

The pitch was in a poor state after previous games had been played and the continual downpour of rain, but both teams tried to play their passing game with Helston having far more possession.

Helston's defence of Sedgwick, Mills and Walker easily contained the Charlestown attack, leaving Bain little to do, but organise his defence.

The hardworking Millard boys, Leathley and the ever impressive L Trathen, took control of the midfield fighting for every ball and supporting the lone striker R Trathen, who was a constant thorn in the side of the Charlestown defence.

Helston went close on a number of occasions, but found the Charlestown goalkeeper in fine form.

R Trathen went closest to scoring when he hit a superb effort that was heading towards the top right-hand corner, only for the Charlestown keeper to make an excellent save and push it on to the bar.

The score remained 0-0 at half-time, but potentially there was only ever going to be one winner.

Charlestown took control of the opening exchanges of the second-half, but were unable to breech the visiting defence.

Helston quickly got back into their game plan and stretched Charlestown all over the pitch, but were unable to find the vital finishing touch, which this performance deserved.

Without doubt this performance was one Helston's finest and the team showed an abundance of self belief. With only five games remaining, Helston are very much in contention for the title.
