FACING the prospect of another weekend without a match because of their troublesome pitch, Porthleven Football Club stepped in to help Truro City fullfil a much-needed fixture against Ilfracombe Town.
The problems with the newly-laid pitch are well docmented and as a result they already face a fixture backlog and trail the league leaders by eight games With a game on their own Treyew Road pitch out of the question, Porthleven chairman Neil Clark offered the club's Gala Parc facilities to the Toolstation Western League club, a gesture they were mightily glad to receive.
City manager Dave Leonard was quick off the mark to offer his thanks to the club.
"Porthleven's pitch was absolutely fantastic. It was wet, but it was playable. I have personally got to thank the people of Porthleven Football Club committee for allowing us to play here," he said after the game. "It is a credit to sportsmanship and football especially when you hear about all the bad things in football. Everybody wants to just take a look at this and from a Truro point of view we really appreciate everything."
City's director of football, Chris Webb, echoed the manager's sentiments: "I would personally like to take this opportunity to thank Porthleven Football Club for all they did for us to ensure that City's unbeaten run continued."
Porthleven have signed Thomas O'Shaughnessy, the brother of Patrick, but have lost Shane Richards who has joined Illogan.
