A public meeting is being held in a final attempt to save a medical co-responder service on The Lizard.
The current system means that firefighters can be called out to medical emergencies to administer first aid before the ambulance crew arrives.
The service in the area costs £30,000 a year, but there have been no guarantees of finance for 2007.
The fire service can no longer afford to pay for the operation and funding from Kerrier council is about to run out. Each call out costs about £100.
The South West Ambulance Services Trust also has insufficient funds to pay for the service.
More than 200 people on The Lizard were helped by co-responders last year. If it is dispensed with it could be replaced with volunteers known as First Responders.
The public meeting is being held in Mawgan in Meneage village hall at 7.30pm tonight.
