WENDRON 3 TRURO CITY 0
TRURO City must be sick of the sight of Wendron after the Underlane club completed a Jolly's Combination League double against the champions.
City began well and looked the better side with Lee Coxon doing well on the flank and shooting over the bar from inside the box.
Justin Miles thumped a shot against the post and a goal-bound shot from Luke Wort was blocked as the visitors maintained the momentum.
The pattern changed in the 20th minute when the home side took the lead. It came from young Joe Cooper who had only played a handful of games at senior level for the club, hitting a fierce 40-yard shot that hit Miles on the head on the way and flew past goalkeeper Andy Butcher.
The goal settled Wendron and five minutes later they doubled their score. Lee Gribble controlled the ball with his thigh from Glyn Hobbs' throw in and laid it into the path of O'Neill who took it in his stride and hit a fine shot inside Butcher's post.
Wendron might have snatched a third goal on the half hour when Steve Kellow slipped a pass through for O'Neill, but dragged his shot just wide of the upright.
With the strong wind at their backs City had the lion's share of possession in the second half, but were unable to find a way past the solid home defence in which goalkeeper Bryan Scoffin also had an impressive game.
He made several terrific saves with one shot from Luke Wort looking a certain goal until he got down and pushed the ball wide for a corner.
Shortly afterwards he came to Wendron's rescue with another superb save when after keeping out a header he managed to get up and put the follow up effort over the bar.
The best goal of the game came in the dying minutes when Justin Searle, returning from injury, won possession and played the ball to O'Neill who held it up for Sean Johnston to take it on past Miles and cross for O'Neill to drill his shot in from close range.
