New work by two of Beside The Waves best loved artists will go on display this February at their Gallery in Cornwall. Emma Dunbar and Emma Jeffryes have combined forces to provide a stunning show full of both commonality and contrast.

Admirers of each others work, these artists are thrilled to be exhibiting together for the first time, having followed each others progression for many years. Certainly the concept of a show by the two Emmas is now an achievement fulfilled, for gallery director Lesly Heather, who has bided her time for several years before approaching each artist to commit.

So why Inside Outside? Well because both artists are equally concerned with interiors and still life compositions, alongside their passion for land and seascape subjects. Although distinctly different and instantly recognisable their styles both exude fresh energy and optimism, and a love for colour experimentation. In fact their personalities in many ways shine through in their work; a positive joy for living and natural enthusiasm bond them.

For this show Emma Dunbar will be showing us the best of her new paintings concentrating on complex colour compositions. In one of her key paintings "Blackberries and Apples" the drama of the dark table top provides the perfect backdrop for the carefully placed objects. Fresh green apples and bright nasturtiums leap towards the viewer and are perfectly balanced by bright geometric shapes, whilst other elements subtly provide hidden interest, such as a couple of additional blackberries sitting in the shadows. So whether it is vibrant magenta set against red or sugar sweet colours mixed and matched Emma Dunbar's paintings provide an intoxicating mix and fascinating juxtaposition.

Emma Jeffryes will be presenting several smaller groups of paintings within her whole body of work. Each group of four or five paintings will provide a mini series that makes sense of the overall collection. Topics covered will include winter harbour scenes of St. Ives and nearby Carbis Bay, close up studies of fishing boats on their moorings in the harbour, and still lives, some with views through windows. Some of Emma's delicate still lives have a love struck theme, with heart and flower symbolism used as inspiration for this Valentines time of year. In direct contrast her "Big Boats", as the gallery staff like to refer to them, have an amazing presence and power. Painted freely and completely spontaneously they capture the essence of the harbour and simplify the jumble of rope and buoys to pure lines and shapes.

Both the gallery and artists are very much looking forward to this show which marks the beginning of Beside The Wave's busy 2007 calendar. This show will give everyone a much needed boost of positive energy and colour to kick off the artistic year.
