The Highways Agency has been alerted to a number of recent incidents of people calling door to door offering to Tarmac drives and private roadways in Cornwall and claiming the Tarmac is surplus material from the A30 Bodmin to Indian Queens road scheme.
In some cases they have also claimed to be subcontractors to the Highways Agency.
The Agency said today that no surplus Tarmac was made available from their schemes and their contractors and sub-contractors were not allowed to sell-on any materials used in their road construction projects.
The advice to householders from Cornwall County Council Trading Standards is to consider very carefully whether they wanted to accept the offer of work on the doorstep and to allow themselves time to consider other options, such as using an established local business.
