Celebrations are underway at Helston Community College with the news that two students have been awarded places at Oxford and Cambridge universities.
Peter O'Brien, from Carnkie, and Matthew Kingston, from Helston, have been invited to study at two of the UK's most prestigious universities, known collectively as Oxbridge.
Peter, aged 17, has been offered a place at Magdalene College at Cambridge University to study engineering. He is currently taking A-levels in maths, further maths, physics and chemistry, having received four As for the subjects at AS-level. He hopes to use his engineering degree to become involved in environmental engineering projects.
Matthew, aged 18, has been offered a place at Jesus College at Oxford University, to study chemistry. He is also currently taking A-levels in maths, further maths, physics and chemistry and gained four As at AS-level. His ultimate ambition is to use his degree to gain a career in chemical research.
Matthew said: "I'm very pleased. I also applied for Bath, Southampton, Warwick, Cardiff and Bristol. I'm hoping for a good experience, a good education and to meet new people."
He added that he had not really considered applying to Oxbridge until a teacher suggested he give it a go.
