On Sunday evening whilst Germany and Argentina battled in Rio, a Falmouth concert saw two choirs come together at All Saints’ Church in a concert compered by David Peters.

First on were the Mount’s Bay Singers under musical director, Sheila Farmer with accompanist Bridgit England, followed by Treverva Male Voice Choir with MD Roger Pinsent and accompanist Ruth Bray.

A really good evening of varied music including a beautiful choral piece by Saint-Saens, ‘Away from the roll of the sea’ and Abba’s ‘Thank you for the Music’ from Mount’s Bay and a very moving ‘Lord’s Prayer’ from Treverva. The showpiece of the evening was Treverva’s singing , in the presence of Harry ‘Safari’ Glasson the arrangement of his songs in the medley ‘Men of Cornwall’ including ‘From our Celtic Land,’ ‘Islands of Scilly,’ ‘Cousin Jack,’ ‘Harry’s Song for Cornwall,’ ‘Simple Pleasures’ and ‘Cornwall my Home’ Harry loved what he heard.

He was not the only composer present, Bryan Jay, composer of 'The Roads to Hayle' and lyricist Kate Goodman and sung by Mount's Bay, were also present. Soloist Frankie Addy sang 'Cry me a River' and 'Georgia on my Mind'.

Frankie's grandfather, Clive Gregor, has sung bass with Treverva for 35 years and was presented with a badge to recognise this.

Later the evening ended with a social wind-down at The Atheneum Club where some of Harry's songs were sung in their informal versions led by members of the Lemonaires.

Treverva welcomes new members in all sections. Practices take place on Mondays from 7.30-9.30pm at The Place, Penryn Rugby Club.
