Port Navas Regatta celebrates its 100th year of fun on and off the water at the end of |this month.

A traditional and old fashioned event, plans are well under way for this popular summer regatta which this year will start at 3pm on Saturday, July 26.

Rowing boat races, fun races, swimming races, demonstrations and many more water-based events are combined with fair stalls, tombola, raffle, children’s races and fancy dress (this year’s theme is a 1914 Child). Free balloon sculptures and face painting for children are part of the attractions as well as barbecued burgers, sausages and lamb as well as cakes, buns and biscuits and a bar.

To celebrate 100 years there will also be a water pageant. The chairman, Richard Tiptaft, is hoping for a bumper year. “Our main aim is to have a fun, community event open to locals and visitors alike.

“However all our profits go to charity and we have raised |many thousands of pounds over the years. Money goes to national charities such as Macmillan and Save the Children and to local interest charities such as Air Ambulance, RNLI, St Julia’s Hospice and many others. We would love to make this a very special centenary celebration and have even more fun than usual.”
