Visitors will be invited to view a range of gardens, opes and yards in Penryn during an “Edible Gardens” showcase which opens on July 20.

The programme, which is organised by community group Incredible Edible, will see nine gardens in the town opened to the public with another on display in Budock.

Gardeners will be showing off fruit, vegetables and herbs, some of the gardens have crafts for sale and many will be offering refreshments, from homemade cakes and fresh-from-the-garden herb teas to St Gluvias Community Garden’s pop-up burrito bar.

Betty Levene of Penryn Incredible Edible said: “As ever the edible gardens showcase what can be achieved without great knowledge and on a minimal income or with a small space, encouraging as many people as possible to do likewise.”

Participating sites have undertaken to adopt bee-friendly policies and garden visitors will be asked to make a similar pledge in the hope of making Penryn a bee friendly champion community, there will be a treasure hunt to discover a piece of poetry, with the prize of a Bee Friendly Kit donated by Falmouth Friends of the Earth, and Bailey’s Country Stores will carry on the theme. Copies of the programme flyer are available in Penryn Library, town council offices and around the town as well as on the website penrynedible.weebly.com.

Performers and artists who would like to use one of the open gardens as a venue for their work should contact penrynedibleopengdns@gmail.com or 01326 377447.
