FALMOUTH Lifeboat was launched into action on Monday (January 22) after reports of a woman falling off Rosen Cliff at Nare Head, only to discover it was a false alarm.
Falmouth coastguard received a report at around 11.52pm that a woman wearing a red top had fallen over the 300ft cliff.
Portscatho Coastguard Cliff Rescue Team and a Royal Navy Helicopter from RNAS Culdrose were also tasked to assist.
The inshore lifeboat and helicopter carried out a search of the coastline but found nothing.
A member of the inshore lifeboat crew spotted a woman wearing a red top on the headland, the helicopter was diverted to try and find her while a member of the lifeboat crew was landed at the base of the cliffs to check amongst the rocks.
At around 12.39pm the area had been thoroughly searched but nothing was found and all units were released to return to their stations.
Later that day it was confirmed that a women fitting the description of the casualty had been out on the cliffs training for a marathon, and had been totally unaware of the search.
The initial report had been given in good faith by a member of the public who had seen a person suddenly disappear from sight at the edge of the cliff.
