POLICE are hunting for a 45-year-old man in connection with a stabbing in Penryn which left another man seriously ill in hospital.

Michael Turvey is wanted in connection with the stabbing which took place at around 12.50am yesterday (Tuesday January 23).

Police received reports of a serious assault at 4 Praze Meadow, Penryn. Officers attended the scene with paramedics and discovered a 57-year-old man with multiple stab wounds.

He was immediately taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital where his condition is described as serious but stable.

Police started their investigation by searching the immediate area for a man who they believed could help them with their enquiries and a police helicopter was seen circling over the area and police were handing out leaflets to residents with details of the car they were trying to trace.

Initially police were seeking assistance in finding a black Volkswagen Passat, registration SK020SP which they believed Mr Turvey was driving. But the car was later found at Churchtown near Redruth.

PC Baxter Provan said: "This man could be anywhere in the Devon and Cornwall police area and may be attempting to travel to south east England where he has connections.

"We are urging Mr Turvey to come forward but are advising anyone who sees him not to approach him but call 999 immediately."

Mr Turvey is described as a white male, 5'7" tall with short dark brown hair, of a medium build, clean shaven and hazel eyes.

A resident of Praze Meadow, who did not want to be named, said: "I am so shocked by what has happened and it has upset me. This is usually such a quiet place and there has never been any trouble like this before. I didn't know the man who was attacked at all really but I saw him about."
