A valley in Wheal Maid is to be fenced off to stop motorcyclists from using the Mining World Heritage site.
Cornwall county council says the valley at Wheal Maid, near Carharrack, and its 19th Century remains need protecting.
The council says the damage scrambler bikes cause to the area is unacceptable and illegal and it is to close off the whole valley to them using it.
Local people claim bikers' noise and dust also causes problems. Carrick district Council and police are also supporting the plan.
The county council said although some bikers would be frustrated, it was doing all it could to provide other legitimate sites in the county.
