The beaching of the containership MSC Napoli off Sidmouth has been received with mixed blessings by two Falmouth companies.

A&P Falmouth was expecting the James Fisher coastal tanker Forth Fisher to drydock for routine repairs this week.

On Monday the tanker arrived in the bay where she underwent an immediate on-hire survey before being chartered out to the Maritime Coastguard Agency to load 3,500 tonnes of heavy fuel oil from the stricken ship.

Meanwhile, docks based Marine Towage and Services (MTS) are working around the clock assisting with salvage and agency work.

Managing director Jon Parslow confirmed that the tug MTS Valour is on charter to the MCA assisting in salvage duties and anti-pollution work.

Brixham and Torbay Shipping Agents, part of the MTS Group, is handling the agency for the salvors and owners of the MSC Napoli.

Torbay and Brixham Shipping Agents have been established at Brixham since 1924, and operate pilot launches, work boats, and a water barge in addition to providing a shipping agency.

TBSA is also known to many in the marine world as "Brixham Pilots", where vessels in transit through the Channel can board or land their Deep Sea Pilot.

The Brixham operation includes shipping agency, personnel transfers, in-water survey and the offshore storing of ships.
