The Princess Pavilion, Falmouth, will be home to the evening entertainment for this year's Falmouth Week August 11-18..
It is the first time the entertainment side of the week long regatta has moved away from the waterfront but organisers are confident it will be a successeful move.
The organising committees of Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week said they were pleased and there would be and "exciting programme of entertainment."
The entertainment part of Falmouth Week is planned by a shoreside committee and this year will feature the usual sell-out events such as the 70's and Caribbean Nights, but also something for younger supporters.
"This is an exciting development for the Princess Pavilion," said Alan Horne, managing Director of Carrick Leisure Ltd., "In the past we have scaled down our evening entertainment during Falmouth Week, so as not to conflict. We are looking forward to the challenge of being a major part of this exciting event for 2007.".
The evening entertainment had proved to be so successful that it has outgrown the soon-to-be-completed Discovery Quay Events Squarewhere a marquee had always been set up to cater for the crowds.
The Falmouth Week Shoreside Committee and the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association took the decision to stage the evening music programme at the purpose-built entertainment venue at the Princess Pavilion after evaluating all the options available.
There could be problems with parking in the area. The Events Square is near to three large car parks whereby the Pavilion parking is limited, but organisers remain buoyant.
"We are delighted that the Princess Pavilion is taking on this challenge. I am sure that they will prove to be a good choice of venue and it is really good to see the activity spreading even further throughout the town. The Shoreside Committee are continuing discussions with the new management of Events Square with the aim of staging an all-new package of daytime activities for Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week to appeal to both residents and visitors," said David Lang, Falmouth Town Centre Manager and Chairman of the Shoreside Committee.
"Falmouth Week continues to be a community event the town can be proud of."
This year's programme will include the Falmouth Firefighters Trident Challenge 2007. The event is a charity marathon swim between Castle Beach and Gyllyngvase Beach with proceeds going to the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund and Cancer Research UK.
Falmouth Week is the 2nd largest sailing regatta in the UK - rivalled only by Cowes Week.
