Baroness Andrews Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, will be attending Penwith's Disability Partnership Group on Wednesday.

She will also be at the old Richard Lander School in Truro which is to become a site for affordable housing following the opening a new school near Threemilestone.

The visit of Baroness Andrews to Penwith follows three important developments : ● Good Practice in Penwith, following the 2004 Single Issue Panel review of Services to Older People. The Penwith Disability Partnership Group was set up following the review and has dramatically improved services to people with disabilities and seeking an adaptation to their home ; ● Penwith District Council will receive £224,000 Disabled Facilities Grants in 2007/08. This is an increase of 43% and follows meetings between Penwith District Council and Government ; ● Some families in Penwith with adults or children with disabilities needed adaptations to their homes, which were over the grant limit of £25,000. We are working with our partners : Penwith Housing Association, Cornwall County Council's Adult Social Care and Children, Young People & Families services and West Cornwall Care & Repair to provide decent and adapted homes which allow the families to remain together.

After the meeting, Baroness Andrews will meet with one of the families to benefit from this initiative in St Ives.

Penwith District is the 34th most deprived district in the Country. The population is made up of a higher than average population of elderly residents - 26.1% over 60, compared with 21% for the UK.
