CORNWALL county council are expected to make a decision today(Wednesday January 7) about preferred sites for household waste and recycling centre and waste transfer station.
In a report prepared by the county council staff they are seeking approval for Scorrier and Hallenbeagle to be identified as preferred sites as part of the Cornwall Waste Development Framework.
The controversial plane to build the waste and recycling centre were met with fierce opposition in October last year by angry residents who did not want such a plant built in Scorrier.
A county council committee backed plans for the waste dump at Scorrier by a majority vote but councillors also pushed through a decision to also consider another site at Hallenbeagle.
The council have now highlighted three possible options which they hope to get a decision on today from the executive committee of the council.
The options are that they identify Hallenbeagle and Scorrier as preferred sites, or to identify am alternative site or to identify not specific site and allow development proposals to be considered against the development plan for the area.
But many residents are still angry that Scorrier is still being considered as a possible site for the waste and recycling centre and waste transfer station.
Ross Treseder, son of Crossroads Hotel owner Paul Treseder, who led a campaign against the plans, said: "The site suggested is to allow for a household waste and recycling centre for Camborne Redruth which is what the county council officers appear to concentrate on and appear to use this as the main reason for the suggested location.
"However the main reason for concern is that this site will also be a waste transfer station) for the entire Kerrier and Carrick districts a fact which is glossed over.
"The problem for Scorrier is the Waste Transfer Site portion of this proposal, despite having the largest impact it appears to come second in the report."
Mr Treseder added that he felt other sites should also be considered, he said: "The Scorrier sites are close to Camborne Redruth but they are not close to Falmouth, Penryn and Truro whom this facility must also serve as a waste transfer site. Wheal Jane is Central to these areas and would significantly reduce the "collection miles" and only modestly increase the "incinerator miles".
"Wheal Jane is a brown field site it is currently a blot on the landscape, the adjoining mine Mount Wellington despite being the same designation as Wheal Jane has recently been awarded planning for an industrial facility there is no reason at all to think that this will not be possible for Wheal Jane."
The county council has said that they believe the most suitable sites for the development at Scorrier or Hallenbeagle both for a household waste and recycling centre for the Camborne, Pool and Redruth area and also as a watse transfer station for the Truro, Camborne, Pool, Redruth and Falmouth and Penryn areas.
