LAUNCESTON 2 FALMOUTH II 0
FALMOUTH Ladies Hockey Club travelled to Bude to play a mid-table match against Launceston, but confronted trying conditions in the first half as they attacked into the bright, low sun.
Picking out players was difficult in bad light resulting in poor passing and a sense of mounting frustration. Launceston capitalised on Falmouth's disadvantage to open the scoring towards the end of the first half when a defensive error left an attacking player unmarked to score an easy goal A more experienced team, Launceston were made to work hard for their three points, with fine play in midfield by Gillian Lister, Becky Gallimore and Donna Parkes.
The home team extended their lead, but Falmouth immediately thought they had pulled one back, only to be disappointed when the umpire disallowed it.
The visitor's attack rarely threatened, despite having much of the possession, but newcomers Maddy Harding and Sarah Murray impressed, with Maddy having an exceptionally good debut performance at right back.
