Following a successful programme in 2006, the Centre for Arts and Media at Cornwall College Camborne is again presenting The Spring Series, a programme of public lectures given by arts professionals, working both in the UK and abroad.
The first lecture in the series will be given by Sophie Mellor, who will talk about the Bristol-based artist-led group, Plan 9. It will be on Thursday, February 15, and will be in the Proctor Building at the college.
The focus of Plan 9 is to curate and commission high quality art exhibitions and events outside the traditional gallery structure.
In 2005, Plan 9 ran a project space in an empty shop unit in the centre of Bristol hosting exhibitions including Gatsobyter, examining street car culture and Generation Games, which offered a platform for emerging artists to work with established artists.
More recently, Plan 9 curated Wig Wam Bam! in 2006, showing Bristol-based artists selected by Marcus Coates, Claire Barclay and Geoff Molyneux. Alongside their programme for 2007 - that includes Black Heart of Bristol, a video project working with asylum seekers, and Art Reality Show, which will unpick the art prize format - they have also launched Plan 9 projects.
Future speakers include Hew Locke, on Thursday, March 8, and Ruth Claxton, on Thursday, March 22.
