A special event is being held to celebrate the success of the LEAP over 50s leisure weeks on Tuesday February 13 at Hayle Rugby Club.

Aside from the event, more over 50s are being invited to sign up to take part in the free activity programme, due to start in April.

The West Cornwall over 50s leisure weeks were organised by the NHS project LEAP Active, Kerrier and Penwith District Councils and a dedicated Steering Group, to provide leisure activities for people aged 50 and over across West Cornwall.

All activities were free of charge and participants had an opportunity to try a range of activities from sailing and windsurfing, to yoga and dancing.

The event is an opportunity for clubs, activity providers and participants to meet and help support the development of future weeks.

On the evening, clubs and activity providers will provide information about their activities by taking part in an informal soap box slot. There will be information displays, so that participants can find out more, as well as a raffle.

Tracey Barter, LEAP activator, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly PCT, said: "We're really hoping the event will be a great success and we are extremely grateful to the Penzance and St Ives leisure centres, which have each donated raffle prizes of one year's free membership and to the steering group for their ongoing help and support.

"There has been an overwhelming response to this event, with 200 people expected to attend and unfortunately, due to limited numbers some participants have been unable to get a place."

There will also be various presentations on the evening, which will include one from a Penwith District Councillor who will talk about the progress made with the programme.

The next West Cornwall over 50s leisure weeks programme is taking place from Monday April 23 until Sunday May 6. Booking lines will open from 9.00 am to 5.00pm, on Monday March 26 until Thursday April 5, excluding weekends.
