Firefighters from across Cornwall will be at a meeting of the county council on Tuesday to hear whether Falmouth and Camborne stations will be manned at night.
It follows an earlier meeting of the council executive on February 7 where the budget was approved for the full meeting on the February 13.
The scrutiny committee meeting held on the January 25 made a recommendation by a clear majority to maintain the current level of fire cover in Cornwall.
The recommendation was made following proposals of cuts that would see a reduction in night time fire cover at Falmouth and Camborne fire stations.
Terry Nottle Cornwall FBU secretary said: "We will be attending the meeting of the full council on the 13th Feb to show our concern at the proposals to cut the level of fire cover at Falmouth and Camborne.
"We are all acutely aware of the consequences that increasing response times can have on public and firefighter safety, particularly at night. These proposals go completely against the councils aim to make Cornwall the safest place to live, work or visit"
Mike Tremellen Cornwall FBU Chair said: "We would hope that the full county council take notice of the recommendation from the scrutiny committee and the concern already voiced by local town and parish councils and the general public, but we also recognise that the Fire Service needs a long term funding solution and not just a quick fix for this years budget. This would ensure the maintenance of a professional and responsive service that the people of Cornwall deserve."
