ST JUST 1
ILLOGAN 2
ILLOGAN maintained their lead at the top of the Jolly's Combination League with a hard-earned 2-1 win at S Just.
This wasn't one of Illogan's most pretty performances, but they knuckled down to match St Just's physical approach and picked up all three important points.
Illogan played with a crossfield wind at their backs and enjoyed plenty of possession, but they found clear cut chances hard to come by against a side who worked hard at shutting down space and tackling well.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 20th minutes and Shane Richards ran on to Nick Medlin's pass and beat the 'keeper with a fine finish into the corner of the net.
Undeterred, St Just hit back and levelled the scores ten minutes before half time when Gareth May beat the offside trap and clipped the ball over Danny Burrows from 25 yards.
With half time approaching Illogan put St Just under a little bit of pressure, but were unable to capitalise on it.
That all changed at the start of the second half when Illogan regained the lead through Richards. He was put through by Simon Ellis and after outpacing the defence gave the 'keeper no chance with a cool finish.
Illogan wasted a great chance to score when Medlin went round the 'keeper but from three yards took too long and was dispossessed.
Illogan survived late scares when Matt Harris lifted a shot over the bar and Medlin was in the right place to head Stuart Nicholls' effort off the line.
Illogan: D Burrows, T Hogarth, D Holsey, A Clark, R Bray, S Peters, N Medlin, S Ellis, D Scorer, A Hill, S Richards. Subs: A Cowper, B Widdershoven, R Gregory.
