THE leading positions in the top four divisions of the West Cornwall League are beginning to become very competitive, writes Brian Nicholls.
Cornwall College Camborne B in division four are the only team with a substantial lead (18 points) over their rivals (Penryn College B).
Only two points separate Premier leaders St Ives A from Falmouth Docks A who both enjoy a match in hand over third placed Bridge A.
Division one leaders St Austell A playing at home surprisingly lost to mid table Harris Mill A 6-4. Second placed Forest Green A seized the opportunity to close the leadership gap to two points by beating Falmouth Docks D 8-2 at Falmouth, Shaun Coombe winning all three of his sets in fine style.
The leadership battle in division two is the most hotly disputed in the West Cornwall league. Only four points separate the three top teams. Falmouth Docks E gained useful points at Harris Mill B losing only 6-4 to the current third position holders - Colin Thomas playing well for Harris Mill and Charlie Martin showing good sportsmanship when winning and losing. Leaders Peoples Palace H entertained mid table Forest Green B eventually running out 7-3 winners.
Penryn College B trounced Harris Mill C 10-0 to remain in second spot in division four.
