CAMBORNE gave a spirited display throughout this Cornwall Cup quarter final tie but the clinical forward power play of their old rivals saw the visitors predictably on top throughout.
In front of a good-sized crowd at the Recreation Ground, Redruth, playing down the slope, went ten points up in as many minutes.
First hooker Ben Priddey touched down following an unstoppable forward drive from a clean lineout catch near the home 22-metre line. Scrum half Mark Richards saw his conversion come back off a post from a wide angle.
Skipper Craig Bonds was next to cross when the centre was put away by number eight Mark Bright after a neat inside pass from co-centre PJ Gidlow.
Camborne went further behind in the 20th minute when Richards slotted a simple penalty.
The resilient home defence - with centre Paul Gadsdon and fly-half Brett Wakfer making a number of telling stops - then kept the Reds at bay until the 37th minute when a penalty try resulted from a scrum close in with Richards converting for a 0-20 scoreline.
In stoppage time Richards burrowed over the line following a series of controlled forward charges to put the Reds 25 points ahead the interval.
Almost from the kick off in the second period the "Cherry and Whites" conceded again, when under intense pressure they allowed Richards to dummy and dart over the line for an individual try that he also converted.
In the 50th minute the Reds put together their best handling of the afternoon switching the ball left and right to where Bright standing in a wide channel showed his strength to brush off two tacklers and touch down. Richards' conversion gave him a 19 point personal tally and his team a 39-0 lead.
Camborne then enjoyed their best spell of the match pinning the Reds back with flanker Kevin Penrose and number eight David Roberts tirelessly leading a hardworking forward pack.
The "Cherry and Whites" deservedly gained some reward for their efforts in the 67th minute opening their account with full back Joe Parma squeezing over on the left after a sustained period of pressure in the clubhouse corner.
In the closing stages as both sides made a string of changes the visitors scored two further unconverted tries, first when replacement hooker Sam Harrison was driven over and a well worked try up the flank was touched down by replacement scrum half Sam Brown.'
