A helicopter pilot from RNAS Culdrose has been presented with a certificate marking his assessment as a mission commander.
Merlin pilot Lieutenant Steve Moseley, of HMS Northumberland flight, received the certificate from Captain Colin Hamp, the senior officer with responsibility for the operational capability of all surface ships based at Devonport.
Captain Hamp, who was visiting Culdrose to meet members of 829 Squadron and witness some of the capabilities of the Merlin, said: "The Merlin helicopter is technologically very advanced and in today's operational climate presents demanding challenges to our pilots and observers.
"Lieutenant Moseley has achieved a significant milestone in his career."
Merlins from 829 Squadron at Culdrose are routinely deployed to the Royal Navy's Type 23 frigates, which are based in Portsmouth and Devonport.
