A £200,000 scheme to reduce flooding on the A30 at Crowlas will begin on the week of February 19.
The scheme will involve improvements to the existing drainage system, replacing pipework and creating an open drainage ditch through adjoining farmland to the Red River.
The work will be completed by the beginning of April and will affect a half-mile stretch of the A30 in both directions. A temporary 30mph speed limit will be in place for the safety of drivers and roadworkers.
Work will take place between 8am and 5pm on weekdays and 24 hours over one weekend, although the date for this has not been finalised. During the weekend closure, a traffic light system will also be in operation. There will only be minimum delays for drivers.
Highways Agency project manager, Steve Phillips, said: "These improvements will greatly reduce the risk of flooding in the village of Crowlas as well as reducing any inconvenience and delay for drivers using this main route through West Cornwall. These works will significantly help towards changing that."
