When Truro High School pupils take to the stage for their forthcoming production of John Godber's Teechers' entertainment is guaranteed.
Set in a state school during the nineteen eighties, the classic comedy tells the story of a new drama teacher, Mr Nixon, who arrives at the school straight from college. Faced with the challenge of cynical colleagues, obstructive caretakers and recalcitrant students, he soon discovers that teaching in a school located in a special priority' area is far from plain sailing - particularly when he has a school play to put on.
Head of Drama at Truro High School, Clare Rawlinson, has herself only recently joined the school but, unlike Mr Nixon, she has found working with pupils a much more straightforward experience.
"The girls are very enthusiastic about drama and act very well,' she said. Teechers' is a very funny play and we've all had fun rehearsing it. The pace is fast-moving and the wide variety of characters means that it involves a lot of students - and some real staff!"
John Godber, who was a teacher himself before changing careers, is well known for hard-hitting comedies like Up N Under' and Bouncers'. Teechers, which was written in 1986, has been performed professionally many times since.
The production will take place in the School Hall from Wednesday March 7 to Friday March 9. Tickets, which cost £5 for adults and £3 for students, can be reserved by ringing 01872 272830.
