Five-year-old Jennifer Kinzel from Redruth is today due to see her life change for the better as she and her family take delivery of a new Spectra Blitz powered wheelchair, thanks to the partnership between children's mobility charity, Whizz-Kidz, and Tesco.

It has always been difficult for Jennifer to keep up with her friends at school as she has achondoroplasia which causes restricted growth. Jennifer is able to walk short distances inside but finds it very difficult to walk for long distances outside, which makes it tricky for her to join in playground activities. Jennifer also has limited use of her upper and lower limbs and she gets tired very easily when having to walk. As yet she has not been able to maintain a full week at school.

But now Jennifer is one of the first to benefit from the partnership with her new powered wheelchair. The wheelchair will enable her to drive independently to and from school over hilly terrain and narrow pavements and comes with a tilt-in-space function to help her feel more securely positioned. It is also fitted with a special footplate so that she can get on and off the wheelchair independently.

Ruth Owen, chief executive, Whizz-Kidz, said: "For a disabled child, independent movement can mean the difference between total exclusion and the chance to join in with friends and family. We are delighted that our partnership with Tesco is helping children such as Jennifer receive the right equipment and we hope by the end of the year to help many more children."

Jennifer is due to receive her chair today at Tesco in Redruth today.
