PLAYING for London-based club York Garden, 16-year-old Darren Reed of Illogan helped his side to win the boys' premier division title in the British League.
During the final round of matches Darren recorded probably the best win ever by any Cornish player when beating Chinese prodigy Wang Zheng. Wang, also under 18 years of age, is currently ranked number three in the English men's ranking. The set ran to five games with Darren victorious 11-9 in the fifth. This was Wang's first defeat by an English player.
Cornish clubmate of Darren, 14-year- old Martha Travis of the Bridge Table Tennis Club, helped her team to the runners-up spot in the British League Girls division one. Another young Bridge club player Alastair Smith, together with St Ives' Mathew Trevorrow and a young Avon player, won the boys' Ddivision 3A title of the British League.
Not to be outdone (by brother Mathew) 13-year-old Rachel Trevorrow has won the girls under 15 and under 18 titles at the Exeter Open held in Okehampton.
