MEMBERS of Truro Junior Hockey Club are celebrating after being awarded £1,000 from the Our Money Your Dream fund which awards grants to young people and youth groups to provide things to do and places to go in the county.
The hockey club wanted to expand its junior section and applied to the Carrick Our Money Your Dream panel for a grant of £582.67 to buy additional equipment. Members of the panel were so impressed by the bid they decided to award £1,000 to the club.
The grant has been used to buy a range of equipment, including balls, safety equipment and first aid kits which was presented to members of the club at a special presentation ceremony.
Cornwall was allocated almost £450,000 to spend on providing young people with kinds of things they want to do and the places they want to go in the county. The money comes from two new funds - the Youth Opportunity Fund and The Youth Capital Fund.
Details of the Our Money Your Dream Fund are available from www.omyd.org.uk The panels are entirely run by young people, supported by the County council's youth service, Cornwall and Devon Connexions and the voluntary sector.
Applications can be made by both individual young people or groups of young people, with projects expected to contribute to at least one of five key principles - being healthy, staying safe, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and achieving economic well.
All applications for grants should be sent in the first instance to the Youth Service office in Threeemilestone, with decisions made by the individual panels within six weeks of receiving the forms and any supporting information.
