WITH leaders Clinton SC A having a bye last week, there was little change at the top of the division one table, but third-placed Redruth RBL gained two points on Bell's Court in second place.
While Bell's were held to a 3-3 draw by Clinton SC B, Redruth RBL beat Playing Place 5-1 to lie four points behind them with a match in hand. Bell's Court led Clinton B 3-0, but were pegged back to 3-3 by Wayne Mills, Jeff Goldsworthy and Justin Old. Phil Davey (39 break) was Playing Place's only winner at Redruth RBL, whose Alan Hurley made breaks of 33 and 31 in his winning frame.
Penponds are enjoying a good run and their 6-0 victory over Lanner took them into joint fourth place with a match in hand of Redruth British Rail. Keith Hosking compiled a 42 break for Penponds, with Cornie Piredda weighing in with a 38.
Lanner in turn dropped into the bottom two for the first time in several weeks, and last season's promoted teams now occupy the bottom two places. Pool moved out of the bottom two by beating fellow strugglers Illogan 5-1.
With no result received from Godolphin A's match with Redruth RBL in division two2, they still lead Penponds by four points with two matches in hand. Penponds won 4-2 at Camborne RBL, for whom veteran Brian Harris was the only winner.
Despite losing again, 3-2 at Illogan, Porthleven are still in third place, although they have played more matches than those around them. Bottom team Four Lanes B achieved another good victory in their quest to stay up, beating Clinton SC 4-1, with a 40 break from Andrew Phillips and a 33 from Garth Dower.
In division three leaders Redruth RBL Youth went down to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Illogan HI, and the pack are closing in on them after they held a healthy lead a few weeks ago. Playing Place are just a point behind with a match in hand, and the top seven teams are now separated by just six points.
There were crunch matches between four of those teams. Perranporth Golf Club beat Park Bottom 3-2, and there was a similar result for Playing Place at Camborne Conservative. Feock are also still in the hunt, andbeat Redruth Club B 4-1, with breaks of 46 by Jamie MacCuish and 37 by Brian Trewern.
