HELSTON 7pts
SALTASH 15pts
DESPITE having to make several late changes due to some last minute withdrawals Helston were still able to field a fairly strong side against a travelling Saltash team.
The first 10 minutes was to see a number of elementary errors from the home team which let in two soft scores for the visitors. First, the Helston defence failed to pick up a late run from No 8 Peter Congo who crashed over wide out for an unconverted try.
This was shortly followed up when a speculative kick was miss-fielded by centre Dan Locky and full back Simon Watson scored a soft try which was converted by fly half Will Virgo. So within 10 minutes of the start Helston found themselves two scores down.
The only other score of the first half was a penalty in front of the posts by Virgo making the half time score 15-0 to the visitors.
With the half time score of 15-nil, coach Jan Rendell threw on replacements Steve Rendell, Tel Strickett and Ross Kitto. The Helston pack had dominated the scrummage area but was finding lineout possession a problem. It was to take 22 minutes before Locky made amends for his earlier error with a well taken try which fellow centre Martin Mullins duly converted. In the dying minutes Heston had a wealth of possession but could not convert this into points. The final score was 7-15 to Saltash.
