THE Camborne and Redruth Live at Home Scheme, which offers support and friendship to elderly people, has been awarded a community grant for £100 by Kerrier district council.

The volunteer based scheme, which has recently expanded to offer the service in Redruth, received the cheque from councillor Malcolm Moyle, portfolio holder for leisure, arts and culture.

Coun Moyle presented the cheque to Gill Butler and Dru Skuse at the All Saints Community Centre, he said: "WE set aside money from our current budget to award grants for community based projects and I'm delighted to award this cheque, the services that they offer really do make a difference to the lives of many older people in our community."

Amelia Kitchen, who administers the council's community grants applications, added: "We encourage grant applications for community initiatives from local sports, arts or community groups.

"If you have an idea for a project which fulfils at least one element of the Kerrier Community Strategy, and the total cost of your project doesn't exceed £25,000, your project may be eligible for a Kerrier Community Grant. Obtaining a grant is not a lengthy process as we assess applications every month, so that idea you were thinking about could be reality before you know it."
