An important conference aimed at providing Cornish schools with the information they need to protect their pupils from potential dangers of using the internet is being staged on February 27.
The Internet Safety Conference at the Berlewen Building in Redruth is being organised by the county council's directorate of children, young people and families in partnership with the South West Grid for Learning, Child Exploitation Online Protection Service, the Local Safeguarding Children's Board, the Northern Grid for Learning and Devon and Cornwall Police.
Invitations to the conference have been sent to all local authority primary and secondary schools, independent schools, Connexions and organisations such as Dreadnaught who come into contact with children and young people.
Jane McFall, of Cornwall's children services authority, said: "Recent publicity in the media has highlighted the growing issues surrounding the safe usage of the Internet for young people.
"We know that the Internet is a fantastic resource but it is essential that children and young people are aware of the possible risks so they can protect themselves.
"The aim of this conference is to give people who work with children the latest information so they can ensure they have safe access."
