A belief that healthy children learn better has helped Garras Primary School receive an award.
Garras School has been awarded Healthy School Status, following a rigorous assessment that included interviews with staff, pupils, governors and even parents.
To be awarded the status, the school had to prove it promoted healthy activities and habits to pupils. Activities that helped the school on the road to success were its walking bus scheme - which encourages pupils to walk to school - after-school sports clubs and all pupils being offered fresh fruit every day.
Anne Shipman, head teacher, said: "We're very pleased. If children aren't healthy they won't be learning."
She added that although Garras was a small school, it offered a "great deal" in the way of after school clubs and extra-curricular activities and worked regularly with St Martin and Manaccan primary schools so that pupils became used to working with other children.
