A young girl from Redruth who suffers from an illness which restricts her growth was given a reason to smile when she was presented with a new powered wheelchair.
Jennifer Kinzel, aged 5, suffers from Achondoroplasia but thanks to a partnership between children's mobility charity, Whizz-Kidz and Tesco, she now has a brand new Spectra Blitz powered wheelchair which will change her life.
It has always been difficult for Jennifer to keep up with her friends at school as she has Achondoroplasia which causes restricted growth. Jennifer is able to walk short distances inside but finds it very difficult to walk for long distances outside, which makes it tricky for her to join in playground activities. Jennifer also has limited use of her upper and lower limbs and she gets tired very easily when having to walk.
But now Jennifer is one of the first to benefit from the Whizz-Kidz and Tesco partnership with her new, Spectra Blitz powered wheelchair. This wheelchair will enable her to drive independently to and from school over hilly terrain and narrow pavements and comes with a tilt-in-space function to help her feel more securely positioned. It is also fitted with a special footplate so that she can get on and off the wheelchair independently.
Jennifer and her mum Loraine received the wheelchair from Janet Keast and Rosanna Byrne at Tesco Extra in Pool on Wednesday.
