FALMOUTH u12's 1 HELSTON u12's 2 (aet)

DAN Coleman in the Helston goal was the hero as the away team secured the victory that sends them into the final.

Helston travelled to Falmouth for this cup semi final in good spirits, after confirming promotion the previous weekend.

The blustery conditions and slope of the pitch did not aid either team as they both battled for supremacy on the pitch.

Falmouth continued their usual physical approach, giving Helston no time on the ball and always looking to release their speedy front pair with balls over the top of the defence.

Chances were few, as both defences seemed to have the upper hand, then midway though the first half, Falmouth took the lead. A good move saw the ball go out wide and a smart cross, found their player with an open goal and he duly tucked the ball home.

The disappointment drove Helston on and they fought hard to be first to every ball, with both Jason Williams and Peter Crowther in commanding form at the heart of the away defence.

Near the end of the half a sublime pass from Matt Best released Matt Rosewarne, but he screwed his shot wide from an acute angle and Falmouth ended the half a goal up.

In the second half, Helston had the advantage of the slope, but the unfortunate run of the ball seemed to keep the Falmouth goal safe.

Helston continually rained attacks on Falmouth without really testing the 'keeper, but midway through the second half Helston made a tactical change, moving Callum Jones to his preferred right wing in front of the indomitable Jaron Morgan and dropped Ryan Williams out to left wing, which opened the Falmouth defence up.

With the game seemingly out of Helston's reach, they summoned one last assault on the Falmouth defence. Matt Best fed in Jones whose cross was parried by the Falmouth 'keeper only for Matt Rosewarne to steal in and tuck the ball home, off the inside of the post.

Extra time now beckoned and Helston's tails were up, but again, they had to be thankful to 'keeper Coleman, who saved with the outside of his foot, when their striker was clean through. This summed Coleman as he added yet another brilliant save to the four he had made in the match.

Down the left Ryan Bosustow and Ryan Williams were linking well and only last ditch defending prevented Ryan Dowe getting on the score sheet.

With penalties looming a corner from Jones dropped over the' keepers head and for the first time in the match Falmouth failed to clear their lines and Rosewarne back heeled the ball into the unguarded net.

The final score was 2-1 to Helston and the team spirit from the away team decided this result, even though Falmouth put all they had into this cup tie and didn't deserve to lose.
