CLINTON Social Club A continue to stride towards the Mining Snooker League Division 1 title. Last week they whitewashed Breage 6-0 and now hold a nine point lead over second-placed Bell's Court with a match in hand.
There was a 45 break from Clinton A's Graham Denning, and 30-plus breaks from four other team members. In the clash between the second and third placed teams Bell's Court beat Redruth RBL 4-2. Phil Lane made a 52 break for Redruth RBL and Jamie Read won the battle of the youngsters against Bobby Southworth. Bell's Court's Dave Fox battled well to beat RBL's Terry Kempe. Redruth RBL now trail Bell's Court by six points but have a match in hand.
Penponds have now gone five matches without defeat and are within three points of Redruth RBL after winning 4-2 at Leedstown. Redruth British Rail (Neil Rowe 45 break) won 4-2 at Pool and are also close up together with Clinton SC B. Lanner's 5-1 win against Playing Place gave them such much-needed respite near the bottom. The relegation issues are far from decided, with six teams still not completely safe, although Illogan now have a five point deficit to make up.
Division TWO leaders Godolphin A have seen their lead cut to six points by Penponds, but still have a match in hand of their nearest rivals. Last week Godolphin beat Redruth British Rail 3-2. In the previous week they had also won 3-2 against Redruth RBL, with Chris Timmins making a good 69 break.
Penponds have won their last three matches 4-1, their latest victory coming over Redruth British Rail. Clinton SC's Stephen Veasey compiled a 43 break in their 4-1 victory over Camborne RBL. Bottom team Four Lanes B beat their own A team 3-2 last week, making it three wins out of four, but with their byes still to come will find it hard to close the gap on most of those above them.
In division III Redruth RBL Youth are still clinging on to the lead, two points ahead of Playing Place, who have a match in hand.
Last week the Youth team beat Radnor Golf B 5-0, with Jake Stewart making a 36 break. Playing Place beat Park Bottom 4-1 to dent their hopes of honours. Redruth Club A whitewashed their own B team 5-0 to move into third place, while Perranporth Golf Club lost ground by losing 3-2 to Redruth British Rail.
