Pupils at Trannack Primary School were literally jumping for joy this week after learning that an application for £10,000 from the Big Lottery Awards for All had been successful.
The cash will be used to further develop an environmental area at the rural school, which is on the outskirts of Helston.
Head teacher Emma Stritt said: “Trannack Primary School has always been proud of the large grounds surrounding the school which consist of a large sports field, a playing field and an environmental area.
“The environmental area boasts a wooded area, a wildlife pond and grass areas with wild flowers. Part of the environmental area, however, has yet to reach its full potential. This area will be converted to a Trannack Green Space with the help of £10,000 from the Big Lottery Awards for All.”
Mrs Stritt added: “The project was led over a year ago by a small group of parents who had the vision for a vibrant space which would benefit the whole school community.
“Designs include an outdoor gathering space which will blend in with the environment and amphitheatre-style seating where the view across fields and Loe Bar can be appreciated. Also in the designs are a seasonal kitchen garden with a clay oven, an edible forest garden, and a sensory garden.
“The project aims to improve a natural, rural space to encourage healthier lifestyles, enhance understanding of the environment, provide access to arts such as storytelling and bring communities together.”
A working party is currently overseeing the project and work is due to start this summer with the hope it will be completed by the end of the year.
