Burry Port Male Voice Choir are on tour in Cornwall this year, and have kindly agreed to perform a concert to help the restoration of Truro Cathedral on Thursday April 12.

Windswept beaches, rugged sand dunes and stunning views. That very much sounds like a description of parts of Cornwall. But in fact it equally applies to the coastal town of Burry Port in South Wales.

Located just west of Llanelli in Carmarthen Bay and built around its picturesque harbour, it could easily be mistaken for a typical Cornish coastal community.

The harbour was built to export coal to feed the mine engines in Cornwall and like many Cornish harbours, it too boasts a fine male voice choir. The 50 strong choir has a busy musical programme each year but still finds time to perform at national and international competitions.

Colin Reid, communications officer at Truro Cathedral, is delighted to welcome the choir to Truro, he said: "They undertake several charitable concerts every year, and we are delighted that they are coming to Truro Cathedral to raise funds on our behalf. I'm sure the concert is going to be very popular."

As part of the concert programme we are also delighted to welcome Adele O' Neill who is a student at the Guildhall School of Music in London.

Adele has won many prizes at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in the soprano solo competitions and was a finalist in the Young Welsh Singer of the Year in 2005.

Mr David Moore, this year's organ scholar at the Cathedral, will also provide some solo organ pieces during the concert.

Mr Ryan Lee is Burry Port's Musical Director, "We love our singing in Wales as you do in Cornwall. We have put together a tremendous programme for the concert which we think will have a broad appeal. There are of course Welsh hymns and some folk songs.

There are also some opera pieces together with some more modern arrangements. It will be a great evening's entertainment, with something for everyone to enjoy."

The event starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £5 on the door or in advance from the Cathedral Shop 01872 275125
