THE local grass track season gets underway on Easter Sunday, April 8, when the Cornwall Solo Grass Track Club host the first of six race meetings this season at Truthan Farm, St Erme.
The entry club have received one of its largest entries in recent years with around 100 competitors entering across the solo, sidecar, quad and youth classes, giving a 70 race programme.
In the solos, local interest will be on Adrian Rowe, Shaun Pascoe, Andrew Cocker and Ian Parsons in the 500cc class. From out of the county Charlie Saunders, John Weeks, Rod Melksham, Steve Leigh, Lee Pitman and Tim Curnock should all challenge for class honours. In the 350cc Class local youngsters Chesney King, who finished second on his class debut at Somerton, and James Charlesworth, make their local adult class debuts.
The sidecar classes look competitive with 13 crews booked in. Lee Hicks and Phil Collyer will be looking to again show the form which saw them take the class honours at Somerton a couple of weeks ago. Other local drivers competing will be Andy Gribble, Phil Syms, Joseph Sturtridge, Jamie Bree, Andrew Symons and Stephen Palmer. From out of county Alfie Pearn, Jim Pearn, Clive Stoneman, Gary Ball, Aubrey Steele and Daryl Sweetland complete the line up.
A small entry of quads will compete in five races spread throughout the race programme. Over 30 youth entries have been received including a number of new starters in the Auto Cadets, for the youngest riders, to replace those who have progressed on to the larger classes.
Close racing is expected in the youth section with each class taking to the track for five heats each.
The venue will be signposted from the A30 Carland Cross roundabout. Admission is £6 for Adults, £3 for senior citizens and children under 14 free. Practice starts at 11.30am with racing at 1pm. Refreshments and toilets will be available on site during the day.
