A Falmouth company that specialises in green energy systems has formed a partnership with national building giants Sir Alfred McAlpine.
GeoScience Ltd and Renewable Energy Systems Ltd (RES) - a Sir Alfred McAlpine subsidiay - are to work together to expand the provision of renewable energy for all types of new buildings in the UK to reduce both carbon dioxide emissions and conventional energy use .
Sir Robert McAlpine is making a significant long-term equity and support commitment with EarthEnergy, the GeoScience subsidiary company based in Falmouth.
Dr Tony Batchelor, managing director of GeoScience, said: "This is an extremely exciting development for us. We have been very successful to date with more than 1,000 geothermal heat pump systems installed, saving over 3,000 tons of carbon dioxide. Demand is now building so fast that we need to accelerate growth while maintaining quality. The new venture with RES will allow us to do this and provide geothermal heating and cooling systems to a much wider range of buildings."
Dr Ian Mays, of RES, said: "Adding geothermal energy to our wind and biomass businesses allows us to offer unparalleled renewable energy services for buildings by using the undoubted strengths of our companies, all leaders in their fields"
EarthEnergy will expand its headquarters operations in Falmouth and continue the development of regional offices to make high quality geothermal systems available readily throughout the UK. This national growth will enable the company to achieve a 10 fold increase in the rate of installations by 2011.
GeoScience was founded in Cornwall in 1985 to provide specialist services to the geothermal, oil and gas and deep drilling industries worldwide. The geothermal heat pump business of GeoScience was formally moved into a wholly-owned subsidiary, EarthEnergy, in 2005 because of the rapid growth of demand. The two companies employ approximately 25 staff each and the combined 2006 turnover was about £4 million.
EarthEnergy is the UK's leading geothermal company specialising in ground source heat pump systems for building heating and cooling.
Renewable Energy Systems Group (RES) is one of the world's leading wind energy companies, involved in the development, construction and operation of wind farms across the UK, the rest of Europe, North America and Australia. Part of the British Sir Robert McAlpine group of construction and engineering companies, RES has to date completed over 1,500MW of wind energy capacity.
