Described as "the best of neighbours", a Falmouth woman who has dedicated her life to caring for others has become the latest recipient of a bunch of flowers in her honour.

Jean Hart, from Trevethan Road, was presented with a bouquet from Jackie Phillips Flowers on The Moor, as part of a joint collaboration between the Packet and the florists, to recognise Falmouth's most worthy residents and unsung heroes.

Jean was nominated by her friend and former neighbour Pamela Cohring, from Chapel Terrace. Pam was 15 years old when she first met Jean, who moved into the same road with her seven children and her disabled husband George, who suffered with muscular astrophy before his death.

Pam said: "She's always been the best of neighbours. She always drops whatever she's doing - it's never as important as what somebody else needs. You don't meet many people like her."

Over the years Jean has been heavily involved in working with disabled people, through her husband, helping start a wheelchair dancing club with George and also becoming involved in paraplegic athletics.

On a neighbourly side, as a resident of Chapel Terrace she regularly cut and permed the hair of the elderly women in the road who were unable to get out of the house. She still takes one neighbour shopping every day, after the woman lost her husband 18 months ago.

She also currently volunteers at the Salvation Army Shop in Falmouth and is involved in raising money for disabled Romanian orphan Cornel, who has visited Falmouth on a number of occasions.

Jean said: "I have a wonderful family and friends and the Lord to help me. I'm thrilled to bits with this, but at the same time a little embarrassed. It's lovely to be acknowledged - though I don't feel I've done anything special."

The flowers were presented by Jackie and Allan Phillips, who own the florist shop.

Pam added: "There's so many people that don't get recognised - it's a lovely gesture from Jackie and Alan.

Alan explained: "We hear so many bad stories, it's nice to reward those who are doing something good in society."
