Over 100 walkers took part in the 2nd Devoted to Life Walk at Cotehele.
Walkers from all over Cornwall and from further afield including a team from Somerset enjoyed either a 3mile or five mile walk around the beautiful estate. Walkers set off in ideal walking conditions, cool and dry, and all completed the route within 2hrs.
The event was organised thanks to the support from The National Trust.
The National Trust has owned the 1289-acre Cotehele estate since 1947. Cotehele has been owned by the Edgcumbe family for nearly six hundred years. At the heart of the estate is the much-loved medieval house, a sanctuary of old walls, dim light and stillness in a beautiful and remote setting above the River Tamar. The house draws people from far and wide but the estate, with its hidden charms and unexplored pathways, remains largely a undiscovered treasure. After the walkers had completed their walk they were given a complimentary pass from The National Trust to visit the house and gardens.
To date over £4,000 has been raised for Marie Curie Cancer Care. The charity provides high quality nursing, totally free, to give terminally ill people the choice of dying at home supported by their families. The nurses care for almost half of all cancer patients who die at home. The Marie Curie Nurses work through the day or night, usually for eight or nine hours at a time, to care for the patient and allow the family to get some well earned rest.
