Kayaking enthusiast Linda Dawe was the first woman to finish a 125-mile race which started on Good Friday and finished on Easter Monday.

Linda, who is headteacher at Pencoys School in Four Lanes, came sixth overall in the race and was one of only three women to take up the challenge and compete in the race which started in Devizes, Wiltshire and ended at Westminster Bridge in London.

After months of hard training the date for the race finally arrived and after Linda had finished the race it was clear that emotions were running high.

Linda said: "I finished and I did it in under 18 hours. I cried when I finished and so did the support team. It feels awesome and I am so chuffed."

The four day race involved covering a 34-mile stretch, followed by 36 the next day, 38 miles the day after that and finally 17 miles on the last day.

Linda has previously represented Great Britain at an international competition in Denmark with kayaking partner Gemma Hawkey.
