THE champagne was flowing as friends and family gathered at the home of a Penryn couple who celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary.
Kathleen and Barry Honey were married at Falmouth Registry Office on March 3 1957. Both were born and bred in Falmouth but now live in Woodland Avenue, Penryn.
Kathleen worked in Andrews Bakery on The Beacon and also at Budock Hospital for 16 years. Barry worked from the age of 15 at Falmouth Docks but left to carry out his national service in the Royal Navy as a petty officer.
During his time in the Royal Navy he served on the HMS Eagle but returned to the docks after his service, to work as a boiler maker until he retired at the age of 65.
The couple enjoyed a family gathering at their home in Penryn for the anniversary and were joined by four generations including their four children; Rosemarie, Nigel, Glen and Adele.
Also their seven grandchildren, one great grandchild - with another on the way.
When asked what the secret to their long an happy marriage, Barry said: "A good bottle of whiskey helps," Kathleen added: "I think you just have to be truthful and trust each other, they are the most important things."
