Internationally famous Falmouth daffodil grower Ron Scamp has been given the honour of having one of his new breeds named after a Welsh opera singer.
Mr Scamp develops new strains of daffodil and narcissus at Penrose Farm near Maenporth and one of his recent developments, a fragrant narcissus with a golden yellow outer petal and orange centre, has been hand-selected to be named after Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins.
The bloom is due to debut at the three-day Royal Horticultural Society Spring Flower Show in Cardiff starting next Friday (April 20) - an event at which Mr Scamp has won a gold medal two years in a row. This year he hopes to make the event extra-special by winning a third gold, to make a hat-trick.
Mr Scamp said: "Katherine Jenkins is another feather in our cap - a jewel in our crown. We are delighted."
He was asked by the Welsh government whether he could provide a selection of his new strains, which Katherine could pick her favourite from.
