CORNWALL Solo Grass Track Club hosted the first race meeting of the season on Sunday at Truthan Farm, St Erme with a 72-race programme enjoyed by a large crowd.

In the Solo classes Charlie Saunders claimed the Experts and Open classes but missed out on the 500s after retiring in the heats with Steve Leigh taking the win in the final. Rod Melksham claimed second in the 500's and third in the Experts and Open. Paul Derrick claimed third in the 500's with Leigh claiming second in the Experts and Open.

Matt Budd claimed the Restricted and Invitation finishing ahead of Nick Mallett in both finals with Luke Cox third in the Restricted and Steven Gale third in the Invitation.

Derren Harris claimed the Pre 75s run over three legs with two wins and a second place, Charlie Patterson claiming the other win. Lee Pitman claimed the 250s with two wins out of three. The only local class winner in the solos was 15-year-old Chesney King who was in dominant form in the 350 class winning all three heats and the final. Sam Fowley claimed second in the final ahead of Jon Shanes.

Andy Gribble, partnered by Phil Stoneman, claimed the first sidecar race of the day, the restricted licence holders, ahead of Joseph Sturtridge/ Lee Toms and Jamie Bree/James Goudge. Stephen Palmer and Shaun Hoskin claimed the Experts race ahead of Clive Stoneman/Matt Vickery and Lee Hicks/Phil Collyer.

The heats for the 1st Open served up four separate heat winners in the six races, Stephen Palmer and Lee Hicks both claiming two with one apiece for Jim Pearn/Paul Uglow and Andrew Symons and Roland Broomfield. Hicks claimed the final ahead of Pearn and Palmer.
