HELSTON II 35pts VEOR 0pts
THIS was an enthralling encounter not least of which the score did not truly reflect the match.
Veor tried significantly to contribute to the match but were closed out by a strong Helston outfit that refused to concede any points.
The home side was led from flanker by Gary McStein and included Darren Stanley in the line up along with father and son Kevin and Ryan Boulton. The visitors included John Mankee at scrum half and debutant Andrew Stevenson in the second row.
Helston opened the scoring with a well-taken penalty by outside half Rob Trembath. This was shortly followed by tries for flanker Lee Hoskin and wing Barry Williams. This completed the scoring at half time.
The second half was to see a fighting rearguard action by Veor with flanker Jason Vinnecombe much to the fore. However, Helston second row Darren Stanley stretched his legs for two tries as well as a try apiece for Trembath and wing Andy Hearn. This completed the scoring for a sound and memorable victory.
elston 2nds play Stithians away on Wednesday evening and both the Helston outfits find themselves up at Newquay next weekend for the final league game of the season for the first team and the 2nd XV playing a friendly against the Hornets 2nd XV.
